Rooney hails United signings
Wayne Rooney has hailed the “exciting” double capture of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin by Manchester United.Midfield duo Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin arrived from Bayern Munich and Southampton for £15million and £24m respectively, as part of United's major summer spending programme.
The pair joined attacking midfielder Memphis Depay and full-back Matteo Darmian in signing for United this summer, with Louis van Gaal having presided over a £78m spend, with more to come.
United skipper Rooney believes the new additions are just what Van Gaal's side needed and believes they will give the Reds every chance in their quest to win trophies again, after ending the last two seasons empty-handed.
Rooney, speaking ahead of the opening game of United's US tour tomorrow, against Club America in Seattle, said: "Bastian is a very experienced player who has won everything in the game and it’s great that he has chosen to join us and left a team like Bayern Munich to come here.
"And Morgan as well – it’s great to see Bastian, him, Matteo and Memphis all come in and give the squad a boost. It’s exciting times and I’m sure over the next week or two it’ll be great for us to get some training sessions in and get to know each other's games.
"Bastian speaks very good English so that’s a boost for the squad, too. He’s a fantastic player, he’s shown that over the years and it’s great that we’ve got him and I'm sure he’ll be a good player for us.”
